This back and forth is tiresome.
Have you read the thread from it's beginning when I started it? The problem is a particular sign in ONE location that is not as clear as it should be as compared to other HOV access signs I have seen. It does not say "Only" on it anywhere.
If you google HOV signs & then get the image results, most of them have a notation that reads "2+ occupants" or something of that nature & I have seen such signs around here but not in the ONE location I am referring to.
Therefore, folks are using the ramp to access the freeway & are getting ticketed by the APD in bucketloads because it is a poor sign. I looked at it again last night & it is a poor sign because it is not specific enough.
That is the reason I made this thread; because of ONE particular sign & you cannot change my intent despite your efforts to seemingly do so. I have never broken the law at that ramp location & you need not insinuate that I have. This thread was not intended to be about lawbreaking & frankly it is an old thread did not need to be bumped back into activitity.

The problem is that we have fifty different states with fifty different variations on the common standard, the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. In many cases it's no big deal--for example, different fonts on exit signs around the country--but other times it is a big deal, such as a flashing yellow arrow meaning different things in different places.

When youre unfamiliar as I am and was using my gps to get home, just how familiar I am with the downtown area. As my directions said turn left.onto Williams 75/85 N ramp I couldn't get over to enter and thought I was going on a ramp back south or not sure where it would lead me. So when he pulled me over I had no idea what the problem was. Ppl assume.ppl are being abusive not the case it was not clear or no way to self correct if you're forced.to stay in left lane. Definitely a cash cow. As all the other unsuspecting driver passing me and the officers. Unfortunate citizen are set up for failure.

Can't rely on GPS alone. Have to use your eyes as well. That HOV ramp is clearly marked and is notorious for all the tickets that people get there.

TBH I personally could see someone who is new to the area accidently taking the HOV ramp on Williams St, despite it being marked - its easy to say 'Oh, I-75/85 North' and stay in the left lane assuming it was the correct way to go. If I were a cop and saw it was out of state tag and the driver looked completely confused I probably would have just let him off with a warning.

I wouldn't be surprised if I've made this mistake before. The sign with the HOVand highway is confusing. It leads me to think that you use that road which will lead you to 85/75 north and then once you get on the highway, will give you time to switch lanes before turning into an HOV lane.

Maybe you shouldn't have a Driver's License if you can't operate a vehicle and read overhead signs.

If someone cannot operate a vehicle and read this easy overhead signs, then maybe that person does not need an Drivers License.

I've seen the sign. But if someone was driving there for the first time, I could easily see them making that mistake. The first thing they see is I-75/85 North. While not wanting to mess up and go a different direction, they end up staying in that lane.

That stated, most people in America do not need licenses, driving is clearly a tax....not a privilege.
