Because it's sheer pandemonium when you close reactively instead of proactively.

I lay the blame squarely on the news agencies around here, how many time did they say "just a dusting, no problem for Atlanta!"??? I'm on another web forum with a lot of amateur and professional meteorologists and they had this thing nailed 2 days out. If they can do it, then so can the news folks!

oh bs.

The news has been saying it was going to be a inch or two since the weekend.

Cobb and the rest decide to take the chance since the storm came in after the start of the day even though, they know our area has sub par snow cleaning. The blame is strictly on the superintendent and his underlings for taking the chance when they knew were going to get snow.

Only 3 counties were originally included in the winter storm watch : fayette, Henry and Clayton. The storm was definitely underestimated

Then we weren't watching the same news stations. Any time I turned on WSB or CBS Atlanta or Fox Atlanta, all I kept hearing was "dusting" and "minimal to no impact." Yes, the schools deserve a lot of blame for not verifying this professionally, but the local news agencies aren't blameless either.

Yup. The minute the National Weather Service upgraded the winter weather advisory to a winter storm warning, school systems should have cancelled classes for the whole day. I know that they didn't want to overreact, but let's get honest--any time there is a measurable level of snow around here, travel conditions become AWFUL.

I just tried to shovel the hill on my street because that was where people got stuck last time this happened.

Shoveling my driveway was no problem because it was just snow, but the street is already ice from where people have driven on it and it melted, refreezing into ice. How do you shovel ice? I couldn't figure it out. I thought I was so smart buying a snow shovel in 2011, but it can't help with what we have.

Last night, the whole southside was add into the storm watch.

Only excluded was Dekalb and upward but they were in a watch area as of last night.

Last night, FOX 5 said 1-2 inches in the Atlanta area...1-4 from Rockdale and other southern counties on. They had even stated that the storm was moving more northward so things had changed and would start later in the morning. Everything happened exactly like they predicted last night and this morning.

The schools didn't want to look silly with closing with no precipitation falling but look what happened today.
