In what seems like a last ditch move to find a new tenant for the Georgia Dome, unconfirmed reports are surfacing that the City of Atlanta and the Georgia World Congress Center Authority have entered into an agreement with Georgia Tech for the Yellow Jackets to move their football games to the Georgia Dome once the Falcons have vacated the buliding.
This comes as a shock to players and coaches who were apparently unaware that the school was even in negotiations to take over the 22-year-old dome.
“I guess this just proves that the former Big East has truly infiltrated the ACC,” said an anonymous Georgia Tech coach. “It’s the only way Syracuse could probably beat us, to have their dome field advantage even on the road.”
The big question now is what will become of the historic Bobby Dodd stadium, and the answer will probably be of great joy to most of the Tech student body, although the people who support athletics will be less than pleased.
One of Tech’s top administrators, who spoke to sources on the condition of anonymity, said that the 101-year old stadium would be converted into parking for underclassmen and visitors.
“Can you imagine what we’ll save in lawn maintenance and upkeep of that old place? That savings alone makes moving a few miles down the road for football games completely worth it. Not to mention, it will keep us from having to hear the endless moaning and groaning about the so-called ‘parking problem’ here on campus.”
The interview was apparently cut short when the administrator had to go prevent a boot from being placed on his car.
Also included in the deal will be free football passes for Braves season ticket holders who don’t want to make the trek up to Cobb County to see games at the Braves new digs.
Rumors are that the Georgia Tech administration is also looking at taking over Underground Atlanta to use as an athletic commissary, and FanFest on game days. The leaked plans are said to include a dunking tank…victims to be determined at a later time.
Other leaked elements of deal reportedly have the retired Bill Curry being brought on as a consultant during Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate week, and a ban on the color red inside the dome on Saturdays.
Upon hearing news of the deal, Yellow Jackets head coach Paul Johnson tweeted the following:
Can we cut block indoors or not? That’s all I want to know. Oh, am I tweeting? How do I delete this?” #FromDoddtoDome #PlasticGrassDontCare @GTPaulJohnson
The tweet has since been deleted, actually within about 30 seconds.
Finally the terms of the deal include that each and every person reading this post have a fun and safe April Fools Day!
ahaha

The chain of dominoes continue to fall. The Atlanta Falcons decide they want a new stadium and will be moving. Georgia Tech announces it will be moving its football program to the Georgia Dome. The next thing that can likely happen is Major League Soccer coming to Bobby Dodd Statium. It is in move in condition and would eliminate expenses of constructing a soccer specific stadium.

Yeah this is an April fools joke. We can't even fill our own stadium on campus, let alone the Dome.

It was fun to think for a moment.

One thought you can take away is using an existing stadium for a Major League Soccer team to be a tenant. Is that feasible?

They'd go in the new Dome. There's no need for 2 stadiums.
