I went to a presentation at Georgia Tech a couple of months ago where they presented the latest designs for the MMPT plan. I've been searching the internet for those renderings for a while and I finally found them.

Here they are.

Looks like a pipe dream....Isn't this supposed to be completed by 2017? They haven't even started construction yet and I have to imagine something like this takes 3 years to build.

I hate to be negative, but based on the information I have heard from a few people who have worked on the project I wouldn't hold your breath on this moving forward anytime soon. Without getting into a lot of details, the momentum just isn't there and they're falling behind on their schedule because they're just not funding the next parts of it. The positive to take out of it is that a lot of the basic studies have been done that so when they're reading to proceed, it'll be ready to go.

I'm not really surprised. This city prides itself in not taking it's own deadlines seriously. I knew the 2017 completion estimate was going to be wrong the moment they came out with it. I'm not really expecting operation status until 2020.

I wouldn't even expect that 2020 date and I wouldn't blame the city. I think it had more to do with state / federal funding. The funding relied on state and federal sources whose desire to fund a transportation project like this shifts with the movement of politics. That's why it's not impossible for this to happen, I just wouldn't hold my breath, because you never know what could happen in politics.

i thought it was 2017 also, but for the construction start date, not the opening. i REALLY hope this gets built. anyone who opposes this project is really shortsighted. chump change in the long term for a project that will transform downtown atlanta into a world-class city center and set the stage for the next great american city (that's our cue).

H-o-l-y ****. Between this and the Pantheon we'll basically have a spaceship in downtown Atlanta.

Nice to see this thing getting underway. Folks have been talking about doing something at the gulch for 50 years and the time has finally arrived.
