Hey everyone - I'm moving to Atlanta at the beginning of the year - I've accepted my first big boy job out of college. I'm not really familiar with any of the neighborhoods (other than basic googling and getting suggestions of Midtown/VaHi/etc.).

I'm sure these are all fine options - I'm working with a Fortune 50 company - but unfortunately its a field job rather than a corporate role - so I'm not going to be working downtown. I'd rather not post the address of my job but its about a 25-30 minute drive from midtown in SW Atlanta.

This is a semi close address for reference on the commute https://www.google.com/maps/place/61...22093a5eb4ba4a

So, those of you who are familiar with the younger crowd neighborhood (25-30) - are there any options closer than midtown or VH? I would rather not live 25 minutes from downtown.. but if I could cut my commute down from 30 minutes to 10-20 minutes that would be ideal if the experience in the area was still great. Plus my potential roommate may have a job downtown so I'm sure he wouldn't want to move too far out if I end up living with him. I guess a little background about me if it helps - straight male - 24 - and was in a social fraternity in college.

Any opinions? Would it be better to go with the longer commute and live in these popular areas everyone recommends?

Thanks!

Basically, keep yourself West of the connector

I'd look first look at Castleberry Hill, then at the apartments along Marietta Street near Howell Mill, then at Vinings.

If you are cool with being on the frontier of gentrification, you can also try out the apartments in Mechanicsville on Fulton St or McDaniel or very Northern edge of Pittsburgh along McDaniel St on for size. For the latter, I'd stick to points North for walking, etc. If you go to Pittman Park or the pool, do it during the day and drive.

West of the connector? Sorry - do you mean west of the 85/20 split? Thanks for the quick response!
