Hey, everybody!

I was talking to someone I met who said something to the effect of, "why would anybody want to live in Alpharetta east of 400?" And so I wonder, is it better to live west of 400? Why? Is there something wrong with the east side?

Somebody please enlighten me!

God people make me sick. Why do people always have to make arbitrary borders of something then say that one portion is "better" than the other.

both sides have excellent schools, but the east side of alpharetta is less urban, and there is less of a sense of community. the person may have been implying something racist; the east side of alpharetta is becoming more asian.

Both sides suck equally :-)

The main difference is that there are way more commerical zones (Northpoint mall and the shopping centers around it, office space) east of 400 and smaller swaths of houses and residential areas.

Very little of it is walkable or (safely) cycle-able and the fill-in that has happened in the last 10 years has been a little disjointed.

I agree that it is less a "neighborhood", but that isn't saying much about a city chock full of subdivisions where nobody knows their neighbors.

That part of Alpharetta is almost indistinguishable from Johns Creek, which it borders.

I have not heard this, when we moved to GA last year we were advised by many people to live on the side of the 400 where my husbands job is. (He is based in Alpharetta). We did several trials and the commute time was significantly shorter.

A lot of the exits can get very snarled up with commuter traffic.
