The nation’s largest chain of family-oriented, indoor water park resorts has its sights set on Peachtree City — the very heart of Peachtree City. Great Wolf Lodge Family Resorts is proposing to expand the facilities on the 38-acre site currently occupied by the Dolce Atlanta-Peachtree Hotel and Resort on Aberdeen Parkway.

Amusement park to make big splash in heart of PTC? | The Citizen

Bold proposal. Good luck with that.

This will be a huge hit. We've driven to Charlotte several times to the great wolf lodge there and would go twice a year or more if there were one closer!

Seriously. Is this a joke? They are in for the fight of their lives. Not only does Peachtree City fight anything that will bring alot of "outsiders" to their neighborhood (my parents live there so I've seen that unfold time and again, even with Whole Foods), they also hate noise and chains.

I will be absolutely shocked if PC let's this one fly....

The Great Wolf Lodge here in DFW (just north of the DFW airport in Grapevine) is quite an upscale resort. Think Opryland Hotel for families.. Or one of the Disney Resorts. It has that kind of feel. It isn't a gimmicky amusement park, it is a very nice destination hotel with an indoor water park.

This would be a great thing for peachtree city. And it would make it closer for columbus residents to drive up and go to it as well.

It's not about whether the park is upscale. It is about Peachtree City's mode of operation. They fight against establishmts that will bring crowds bc the only ppl they want in PC are those who live there. They intentionally are highly selective about businesses they allow and allowing an amusement would bring thousands of ppl into PC who do not live there. That is not going to fly too well.

Actually, this is a pretty good fit for PTC ... and they need the tax revenue!

Annual property taxes are estimated to total $108,000 while hotel/motel taxes are expected to generate $1.5 million. County property taxes are expected to total $433,000 while county and state sales taxes are estimated at $1.7 million. The resort is projected to employ up to 500 people during peak operating times.

Based on the way they fight this type of thing all the time (giving up tons of potential revenue) how is this a good fit for them. They just don't want a bunch of outsiders coming into their community - not even for Whole Foods. So how is this a good fit?
