Anyone have their favorite spot to get inexpensive plants, specifically trees? I'm looking for trees that are small caliper and less expensive than the giant stuff you find at Pike or the like.

I love Growers Outlet in Loganville, I just purchased 15-1 gallon azaleas, 3 perennials and an evergreen large shrub/small tree and only spent 80 bucks. I know at Pike or HD/Lowes I'd be well into the hundreds for that amount of plants. But they don't really have a tree selection.

I would love to find a place like GO but that sold interesting inexpensive trees. Something other than the typical Red Maples or Oaks or Bloodgood Japanese Maples that are sold at HD.

Any ideas where I could find an inexpensive Trident Maple? or Sweetbay Magnolia, Ginkgo, Black Gum etc...I know Pike would have them, and the plant material at Pike is absolutely wonderful, but I don't want to pay for a 2" caliper tree when I'd be happy buying a 15 gallon tree for much less!...I do get trees from Arbor Day foundation but those are really really tiny (think #2 pencil size).

Thanks for any ideas!

Yeah growers outlet is the bomb.

Trees are going harder. Most places are going to want want to capture more of the premium for holding specific varieties. Places like GO (realy Gwinnett greenhouses) can pump out things like Azealas much faster than trees so thats where the discount market thrives.

Sorry I can't help in this area as I have more trees on my property than I can shake a stick at. I just paid Boutte a ton of money to prune and remove trees. But I do have one tip in case you don't get answers here: If you are not already a member of nextdoor.com you may want to join that and ask in your area as well. Good luck!

It's been a few years, but I used to buy trees at the garden center in the State Farmer's Market in Forest Park. The trees I planted are still thriving as far as I know, and the prices were really good.

Goodness Grows in Lexington GA if you have the interest to make a day trip. If not, and you really want the best price, I would order the tree online. You are wise to check the size of the tree you are ordering--as that is the most common online ordering mistake. You can usually search by hardiness zone, conditions etc.

I second Goodness Grows! They have a great selection and are very knowledgeable if you have questions about what you are looking for.
