We hear about Hollywood’s ills because those folks are wealthy stars. We don’t hear so much about all the rest because it doesn’t sell news. This epidemic is hardly contained to Hollywood.

It has been a problem in Hollywood going back to the 1920’s. Everyone knew what people like Harvey Weinstein were doing yet they did not speak up and some went out of their way to enable it. Sure it happens everywhere but to the degree and for how long it has been going on in Hollywood? No way any sane person believes that.

I think the adoption thing is stupid and should not exist but to suggest I should listen or care what anyone in the Hollywood culture has to say knowing what we know is absurd. They have zero credibility.

"Casting couch?" Hollywood is bad and has been bad. Big corporations got control of that nonsense 30 years ago. Its a lot less common in small companies than it used to be.

Ooooo wow. These stories just keep getting better and better.

Still not quite as bad as Missouri politics.

This might actually boost our economy, no more roads and businesses shut down for companies that send money out of our state. No more "incentives" that reduce the incoming tax money.

Seriously.

WTF?

Atlanta and Georgia businesses are making a killing off the film industry. Hotels, restaurants/bars, catering, transportation, all sort of equipment rentals, tourist businesses, real estate, construction, music recording, and many other types of businesses, some of which wouldn't even exist here otherwise. The state is getting their tax money as a result of all the filming here. And the entrepreneurial opportunities related to the film industry have gone way up for those who have the creativity and business sense to take advantage of it.

All of that is good news and a HUGE win.

Well, they could have none of that money at all, which is the alternate scenario. I do't know about you, but if I'm given the choice between making a huge sum of money, or not making anything, Im choosing the huge sum of money.

When businesses are shut down for filming, that business gets money. I cannot imagine many businesses that are forced to shut down with no recompense. And I'm pretty sure they have to pay for a permit to shut down a street. They don't just get to come in and do it. That's money for the city.

As far as a boost to the economy, you have thousands of people working in the business making a lot more than they would otherwise, while receiving generous benefits. These are not minimum wage jobs. I paid a hefty sum to Georgia this year from working in the film industry, with a total income in the top 5% of national incomes. I would not make near this much working in any other form of entertainment production, or doing most anything else. There are also dozens of support businesses that have started up, employing hundreds of people. That's a pretty good boost, and it's not money that leaves our state.

I don't think you understand how this actually works.
