For the record, I also think the idea of using Chattanooga as a reliever is, on its face, silly. *IF* a second airport goes anywhere, logistically it should be somewhere like Dobbins or DeKalb-Peachtree (although realistically I know that will create a whole bunch of new problems). Worst case, the undeveloped land to the west of Canton would work too.

But regardless, a 2nd airport isn't happening for the reason I stated before. We're beating a dead horse.

Atlanta's second airport should be at the location of Dobbins.

Plans have already been looked at to make Columbus Metropolitan Airport Atlanta’s 2nd airport. A high-speed rail line study has been conducted and shows the line is feasible. Plus the Columbus airport is larger than Macon’s and already has commercial flights. Who knows if it will ever happen but it has been studied.

Why on earth does Atlanta even want a second airport? Seems like we are doing just fine with only one. Keep as much noise pollution down in the economically depressed areas as possible. Airports are a messy business.

The *REAL* reason is some folks simply hate the thought of ever having to travel to the "no-mans land" that is "south of I-20" for anything.

They got the Braves taken care of, so now that just leaves air travel.

Well, millions of people live south of I-20; most populated "no-man's land" EVER!

I doubt there will ever be a true 2nd Atlanta airport. If one were to develop, the Athens area would work best. Forsyth, Hall, Gwinnett would have fairly easy access and the growth that way will continue.

You can forget it being Dobbins. Hell i'd print off flyers and go to door my damn self rallying people to vote against that one. And honestly, seems that it would be a better idea to expand the airport in Columbus and run a rail line there connecting ATL, Newnan, LaGrange, Columbus and Ft Benning. Would make it easier for all of the thousands of troops that fly out of Ft Benning and all of the people in central GA that have to drive to ATL or catch a connector flight to ATL from Columbus to fly anywhere else.

Again, Atlanta's second airport should be at Dobbins.
