I know Atlanta's always had crime, but it has been trending downward. Anyone notice this year, however, seems particularly violent? It seems like every day I'm reading about a shooting on the news. Even worse, it seems the shootings are happening more in areas I frequently instead of being "sequestered" to the rough areas. Someone shot in broad daylight on a Bird in midtown, a guy shot in the head driving on I-20. Just opened up the news and see police are investigating someone shot in the head downtown tonight. This is all in the last few weeks!

Any idea what's going on? It's a little worrisome.

It does seem like people are losing their $h!t lately. Someone was shoved in front of an oncoming Marta train earlier this week.

This is an irrelevant graphic that doesn't address what OP is asking. Violent crime can trend downward, while still having the occasional short term uptick.

News headlines do not equal an uptick however. We will have to see the stats when they are released.

There is no excuse for pushing someone in front of a train, bus, truck, or car.
But I wish more riders would pay attention to their surroundings and realize that every MARTA Station platform has an overhang where people can safely avoid getting struck by a train if they fall into the tracks.

That's right, so at this point that graphic holds about as much water as saying global warming is a hoax because we've had a pretty mild Summer.

...so a few one-off incidents don't prove the trend? Which side of this argument are you on?

What? I'm on the side that says your graphic does not address whether or not we are experiencing a short-term uptick, and is therefore irrelevant to this topic. And that if we are experiencing a short-term uptick, it does not refute the long-term downward trend. I'm not sure why you would be confused about that.

What is your evidence of this uptick / trend? A few one-off incidents?
