Amazing? I'd keep driving.

I love living in Atlanta but would never consider it a vacation destination.

What are the age ranges of your family? Are they out-doorsy or indoors folks. History, civil rights, science, sports, foods? Can’t promise amazing, but you can probably enjoy yourselves while you are here.

There is tons to do in Atlanta for a visitor. As Gus2 stated, we have the GA Aquarium, World of Coke, and Children's Museum downtown. We also have the CNN Center, College Football HOF, National Center for Civil and Human Rights museum, Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Park, High Museum of Art, Fernbank Museum, Atlanta History Museum, Atlanta Botanical Gardens, Piedmont Park, Sundial Restaurant if you want a view of the city, Jackson Street Bridge to take pics with the ATL skyline in the back, Climb Stone Mountain, Zoo Atlanta, Walk the Beltline (make sure you stop at Ponce City Market and Krog Street Market for good eats). That's off the top of my head so I am sure I forgot some things.

Then you would be the exception, as millions do every year. There's a reason there's a mid-range Hotel boom going on Downtown, and approximately 100,000 rooms in the Metro. It's not all about Business.

For families with young kids, this is the center of the Universe in the world of puppetry. The entire Jim Henson collection is now at the award-winning Center for Puppetry Arts. One of the very few urban, vertical Legoland's is here as well.

Its because most developers/brands overbuilt in 1995 in anticipation of the Olympics. Some brands/properties had a no competition zone (ie Hilton downtown) that expired. Much of the supply is aging or simply gone (Fairfield > dorm rooms). It has taken 20 yrs to absorb that supply beyond some small pocket markets. Millions come for events that happen to be hosted here. Not because Atlanta's attractions are pulling them in. You should order a STAR report so you can see occupancy differences btwn M-TH and FRI-SUN.

You're downplaying regional demand that has always existed, as well as the fact that the attractions surrounding COP created additional demand that didn't exist previously. The new rooms Downtown have far surpassed any replacement of defunct properties, and there are more on the way.

Even though you can't imagine anyone vacationing here, it's a real thing with obviously increasing demand.
