I Love this...and a 'shoutout' to MailChimp for partnering with this organization.
************************************************** *************

"Hannah Hill was planning to become a prison chaplain to help women caught in the unremitting cycles of the justice system. But when she taught herself to code to build a simple website, she realized that there might be a more direct, albeit experimental, way she could help the current and formerly incarcerated population.

The organization’s goals were to break Georgia’s high rates of recidivism — where about a third of the state’s incarcerated find themselves back in the system within a few years — by teaching women in prison the technical skills they would need to hold stable, well-paid tech jobs when they got out..."

This is good. They will surely need it. A record ruins many lives and anything to give them some hope/chances at life is encouraging.

The felony on the record will cancel out any chances these people have of landing a job. They should add entrepreneurship to the list of classes they are teaching as well.

I agree. I think many, including myself, forget that there is software out there that automatically identify applications/resumes with felonies and take them out of the system before a person actually sees them. Some companies are hiring felonies though due to financial incentives from the government.

Entrepreneurship would be a great route. I would hope that there are programs out there or will be programs to help them get started as they are likely not to have the necessary capital.

As someone said earlier the felony record would really hurt them.

Our justice system really needs reform because it seems to think keeping people from getting decent jobs for the rest of their lives after they served their time is a good for society.

Not true. I hired a young lady who has a felony on her record. She was a great employee and still holds her job some twelve years later.

Exactly! 1 out of 3 U.S. Americans have a criminal record. It's beyond ridiculous!

Just another law put in place to keep the prisons full. Keeping people out of work is directly correlated with repeat offenders.

Good for you. Unfortunately the majority of companies don't follow the same practices. Especially of the person is a minority.

I bet it is!

I really hope that the Non-Profit will make a difference. I do want to say other stuff but think it best to stay on topic.
