Riverview Landing: Ponce City Market developers focus on Smyrna | www.ajc.com

Cobb Official: Millennials Want a Piece of This Action - Millennial Watch - Curbed Atlanta

Quote:
Smyrna's planned $300 million mixed-use development, from the same investment company behind Atlanta's Ponce City Market, is now one step closer to reality.

The construction of Jamestown's Riverview Landing is, the company said, dependent on the reconstruction of Riverview Road near I-285 — which started in December and which is expected to be completed by December 2016.

Smyrna City Councilman Ron Fennel said the reconstruction is expected to cost $4 million.

Like Ponce City Market, Riverview will include a mix of homes, shops, restaurants and green spaces, Jamestown said.

It will sit on the Chattahoochee River, on a former industrial site in southwest Smyrna, where the Georgia Tech rowing team now practices and where the REI Outdoor School outpost stands.

Jamestown said Riverview will be more like PCM than its other development projects to date, though it's still not clear what exact shape the development will take, what all it will include or when it will be finished.

It will be interesting to see what comes of this development. Details still seem sparse. But Jamestown has done good projects in the past. However, I am very skeptical that CCT will be able to support any reasonable transit access into the area.

The area is close enough to the MARTA Blue line that they could do a shuttle, like PCM.

True.

Looks like it is just five miles away from H E Holmes station. Which Google says should take 8 mins without traffic. But right now, 3pm on a Tuesday afternoon there is a 5 minute traffic delay. So access is still likely going to be an issue no matter how you are arriving.

Could be even closer if the line is extend one line westward to 285, as is an official hopeful possibility.

A privately funded and operated shuttle system might actually be perfect, because it could ignore county/political lines.

Or people will just drive to it, like most people in Metro Atlanta do already.

The waterfront aspect is particularly enticing.

I'm amazed at the fact that despite the awesome river we have running right through densely populated suburbs, our riverfront building is abysmal.

I mean, I'm all for protecting the delicate river, but also let people enjoy it. I don't know Canoe got the space it did, or the few other places that have built right on the water. But we would probably benefit from having a little more, in areas where ultra rich people haven't taken all the riverfront property for homes -- which any tuber knows, often violate the rules and run yards right up to the water's edge.

Much of the river frontage is protected by the National Park Service.

Transit is so horrific in Metro Atlanta that most have no other option. Do you need some glasses for your myopia?
