Yep, that's the way they used to build retail centers. A lot of places still do.

Nowadays Lenox has gotten flat built up, with highrises everywhere you look.

Interesting to see that area surrounded by nothing but trees. I had no idea that mall predated pretty much all of the high rises in buckhead. When it was conceived, was it always an upscale mall?

When Lenox opened it was anchored by mainstream department stores Rich's and Macy's, but it was also a community shopping center. It had a gas station, a pet shop, a movie theatre, a dime store, and a Colonial grocery.

That picture speaks volume. Look how dumb we were back then cutting down all those trees for a hot ass parking lot. Now we are reverting back filling in those lots. Boy how the world goes back in a circle....

Before it was Macy's, the store was a Davison's. There was a JP Allen. To eat you could pick from the Rich's tea room, a cafeteria (I can't remember if it was Morrison's or which one) and McDonald's. In the middle of the mall was a stage where school choruses performed, puppet shows, etc.

And the mall is still drawing in stores that do not have a presence within hundreds of miles of the city or at all in the Southeast.

Audemars Piguet just opened in Lenox. They’re fully invested in Atlanta and wanted to have a presence here. It’s hard to be more exclusive than AP.

Don't forget about Yohannan's, it was in the front of the mall but underground. The entrance literally reminded me of a subway entrance when I was a little kid.

We lived here for 18 months back then while my folks were climbing the ladder in their careers, and my Dad worked next door to Lenox. I have very fond memories of meeting him for dinner at Yohannan's several times a month.

And where Bloomingdale's is now was actually Davison's back then, but they were always owned by Macy's.

I was actually in Lenox today and I thought to myself I wonder if it will ever expand, and if so how.
The food court really needs to expand have more food options.

The two anchors, Rich's and Davison's, were both locally owned up through maybe early 1980s, and Macy's eventually bought both.
