How are things coming along there? Is development slowing? How is business development there?

I live in West End and no things are not slowly down. It’s getting faster and more projects are lining up.

I think it's definitely worth it. If you don't mind my asking, what are some of the other neighborhoods on the short list?

If these are your options (aside from Smyrna), since Edgewood and EA are already pretty developed, I think WE/WV has more upside potential. On the east side, I think you would get less house for more money in an already established area; whereas on the SW side, I think you would likely get more house for less money in an area that is still somewhat “up and coming”.

So I think it’s just a question of if you want to pay to be close to a bunch of amenities right now, or potentially pay slightly less and ride the wave knowing that Enota Park, more beltline development, a completely redone West End Mall, a burgeoning commercial corridor, etc. will more likely add value and status to WV and WE over time.

FWIW, In terms of homes, I think Westview and East Atlanta are similar in that they are equidistant from downtown, with 1920’s bungalows around a commercial district with “newer” (1930’s/40’s) homes on the southern and eastern peripheries (for EA), and southern and western peripheries (for Westview).

I can’t speak much on Smyna, but I would imagine it would be a completely different lifestyle than living in the other intown areas you mentioned...

"We understand the historical weight of the West End Mall site. It marks the origin point of Atlanta’s legendary African American middle class – which has delivered countless dividends in the growth of our entire metropolitan area. Our proposal is to build on this storied legacy through a new chapter of inclusive re-urbanization. Our goal is to honor this highly-visible and culturally-significant property by transforming it into a 21st-century model for African American culture and enterprise, creating a bold catalyst for the West End of tomorrow.
West End Atlanta will become the beating heart of a dynamic walking district. It will be designed with civic and cultural spaces, a vibrant street-level retail experience, lifestyle office and co-working, active and mixed-income residential, hotels, and wellness amenities. We anticipate over $350M in development on site, totaling more than 1.5M square feet. Importantly, West End Atlanta will also include a $10M+ economic development fund to ensure local businesses play a major role in the development and growth of the community."
