Several cars were broken into in Morningview last night, including mine. It is pretty sad that you can't even leave your car in the driveway these days. Granted, I was the idiot who accidentally left my car unlocked, but still... Had a $200 dollar item stolen. I am sure that we will all be seeing more of this type of thing with the economy.

Funny thing, it usually ends up being neighborhood kids. Be careful, dont leave anything of value in sight. (I think I'm going to need a bigger garage to store all my cars once there ). Being that your doors were not locked, they didnt break any windows or pry your doors open, or did they?

Testing for unlocked cars is one of the most frequent crimes in the entire metro area right now, and yes, most of the time it's kids from the "tweens" to late teens doing it.

In Powder Springs a short while back, something like 43 cars were broken into in ONE NIGHT. Most were unlocked. A month ago, 5 cars on my street (there are only 10 homes on my street) were broken into - and guess - "unlocked". A week later, a dozen more around my neighborhood - almost all were unlocked. Surprisingly, tons of people are leaving their cars unlocked, and during this last wave, laptops, cell phones, ipods... you name it... tons of stuff were stolen and being kept in unlocked cars.

Take ANYTHING of value out of your cars, folks. Anything and everything. Lock your cars. Keep your exterior lights on at night. If you have a garage filled with junk - um.. Clean it and keep your car IN the garage.

Um, IMO pretty straightforward and reasonable advice, Greg. Also IMO, not a hard crime to avoid.

Yeah, I consider the theft to be what Dave Ramsey calls a "stupid tax," meaning an incentive to not let it happen again! I do have a fantasy about leaving my car window down and waiting for the kids or whatever in an ambush, but I can't stay up that late!! I miss the days of growing up in NE Ohio where we did not even have to lock the doors of our house, let alone our cars. I remember as a kid if someone left their lights on, my dad would reach in their unlocked car and turn them off for the person. Those days are long gone.

I think that in this case, it may not have been neighborhood kids. I found out at the bus stop this morning that one of my neighbors had an item taken that would lead me to suspect individuals who may be involved in identity theft.

Break-ins? In one of the top 10 places in the US to live? In a suburb of Atlanta? OTP??

Well now all those theories about the crime of Atlanta vs. the burbs needs to be re-evaluated.
