I will be looking to move to ATL in 2011. I currently live on the south side of chicago so I am beyond familiar with ghettos and high crime rates. Problem is I don't know anything about ATL crime and ghettos. I am looking for new townhome developments that will be finished about the time I am looking to relocate that will be AFFORDABLE as well as SAFE and preferably near good schools (daycare facilities), recreation and shopping. I can't afford the pricest pad (YET) but any assistacne is helpful...Thanks...

Most of Atlanta's crime is confined in it's more impoverished neighborhoods (thought recently, there have been more reports of crime in the suburbs). I don't know, but I think crime in Atlanta is declining.

Anyway, what is your price range?? You should look into Inman Park in the Inman Park Village development. There are some really nice rowhouses and lofts for a good price (I think starting at 150K if you want to buy). Also, I would recommend Decatur, Midtown, Castleberry Hill, Little Five Points and Howell Mill area. There are some nice places for a good price in those areas as well (althought prices are rising b/c of the large gentrification in those areas).

You will be close to a lot of recreation, including Piedmont Park, Georgia Aquarium, Olympic Centennial Park, World or Coca-Cola, etc. Also, you will be close to a good amount of local restaurants and shopping (Althought a lot of the places like Abercrombie and GAP ae at the Lenox Square/Phipps Plaza area).

Hope this helps.
