Does anyone know of a HR Professional position in the Atlanta, GA area?

Hello All,

I am new to the area and am looking to secure a position in the HR profession. The problem that I seem to be having is that I have two years of HR Generalist experience with a MA in HR/ Organizational Leadership and Development, therefore I am being told I have too much education for an entry level to mid level position and not enough experience for a senior level position. Does anyone have any advice on how to conquer this dilemma?

Thank you in advance.

Take off the MA off some of your resumes.
You shouldn't have to but it may help.

I thought of taking the MA off, but my BA is in Legal Studies and Sociology so that will not be able to get me a HR job. It's tough also because I am thirty and left a job making over 60k, and have the bills to go with it, so entry level is not an option. I am staying prayerful about the situation.

Well Atlanta is a tough nut to crack...

Many jobs, 80% start through recruiting firms (who don't do a good job) and too many people for the too many jobs.
Last time I was out of work in Atlanta it was for 7 months, and I went from $50k to $38k to become employed again.

You know I have tried recruiters, you are right they do not do a good job. They seem to be completely overwhelmed because they contact you several times one minute and then the next they do not respond to your emails at all. Well I am trying different avenues because the town I came from (Buffalo,NY) I never had to network, things kind of just landed because it is an industrial town so most people worked in factories and do not have degrees so when you do have one you stand out. But here it seems the only why to get a job is to know someone, however no one is rushing to help out.

My wife has an MBA in Human Resource Management. It took her about 3 months to find a job, but she finally got a job she loves back in October. She found this opportunity thru Craigslist.
Was your prior $60k job in the atlanta area? Based on what my wife experienced, $60k is a high salary for an HR professional in Atlanta with only 2 years experience (regardless of whether you have a MS/MBA). She had a few companies offering under $35-38k.

No the 60k was in Buffalo- but that job was in a different field. I worked for the city. Unfortunately, in Atlanta the public sector is hard to get into and does not pay as well as the private. Completely different dynamics then it is there. Upstate NY is generally not pleasing to most people there (the 2nd highest city poverty rate in the country), I happened to luck up. The quality of life is much better here. I am willing to take a pay cut and work my way up. I just do not want to start at the very bottom (such as an assistant). Possibly a generalist or coordinator, analyst, project manager, etc. Most people who have managers receive jobs such as a manager, director, or consultant.

Everyone hates HR people...OK, kidding aside.

You need to network and get an HR job.

Atlanta's HR market is with the small-medium businesses, so knowing the right people is your best bet.

Anyone in IT with a heartbeat can land a job. HR is a much more competitive market for your profession.

I noticed another vent post of yours on this topic. It seemed as if you were trying to be many things and employers today want experienced people with a focused skillset.

Unless you find an in somewhere, you may need to find an entry HR role unfortunately.
