I concur but unfortunately there has yet to be any agreement from our city leaders on exactly what to do. Some think it just needs renovating but a larger one is definitely needed. The population is here to support bigger shows/events/concerts but there is no place for those bigger shows to go.

I concur, I wonder if the city could partner with GRU and create a sports district downtown. I know one of the future goals of GRU was to have a football team. I think it would be cool to have an arena district with a new arena and football stadium surrounded by lofts, retail and entertainment venues.

That would definitely be a great idea. I don't know how close to reality a football team is for GRU, but if it happens in the next few years that could be a great plan for GRU and the city. I don't see a football team happening anytime soon though but I could be wrong.

I think its feasible for them to have one by 2030, but then again look how fast Mercer University got its football program up and running. I believe they announced in 2009 or 2010 they were bringing back football and look where they are now. They have a 9-1 record in their first year and are moving to the Southern Conference next year.

I think its very realistic that GRU has a team by 2030 but I don't think the city can wait that long for a new arena. It would be ideal if GRU could get a team up and running in the next few years but it doesn't seem likely but I am hopeful for a situation similar to Mercer.

I don't see a new building coming, not from scratch at-least. If anything, I see the current building being gutted and renovated.

I think a new arena will happen before long but more people are currently interested in the performing arts center. Probably due to the Artspace development, Miller Theater renovation, etc and the existing local arts scene.

Where is the money going to come from to build a new arena? It's not happening for a good long while...

Im sure they'll use Splost funds to pay for the arena. Hopefully they might be able to create a public-private partnership to handle some of the cost.
