An eclectic boutique has opened downtown.
Ashton Brooke Ltd. opened in February at 12 Ninth St. next to Boll Weevil and carries mid-century modern, retro and vintage home furnishings, jewelry and accessories.
The 1,600-square-foot riverfront boutique is owned by local resident Angela McNair, who has operated similar stores in Summerville and across the area in past years.
McNair also offers a wedding registry and provides interior design services at the store.

Eric and Kristi Kinlaw are in the midst of gutting a storefront next to the Bee’s Knees tapas bar for their second full-service eatery, The Hive Growler Bar, a hybrid retail growler shop, restaurant and bar.
“Here, we’re kind of limited on space,” said Eric Kinlaw, of Bee’s Knees, which only has room to offer six beers on draft. “We really wanted to expand our on-tap offerings, so we’re going to have over 70 taps and we’re going to sell growlers to go.”
Kinlaw said the pub-style restaurant will emphasize beer selections from Georgia and other regional breweries as well as offer monthly beer events.

In the coming months, Augusta Canal officials hope to add a picnic pavilion to River Levee, while also paving the Lake Olmstead trailhead.
Over the next two years, Foster plans on extending the River Levee Trail another 1.6 miles to the Augusta Marriott on 10th Street.
“We’re very proud of what we’ve done so far and equally excited about the future,” Foster said. “This trail is a great asset to Augusta.”
The trail is open from sunrise to sunset.

Escape Outdoors, which sells paddle sports merchandise, is moving its Augusta location from off Walton Way Extension to 1243 Broad St., next to the Pizza Joint.
“We knew that we needed to expand our Augusta store,” said manager Matt Patrick. “There have been plenty of outdoors stores that have come into town recently, and in order to stay competitive, the placement and also the building size was what we wanted.”
The 7,000-square-foot leased space is more than triple the size of the existing Augusta store, which is less than 2,000 square feet, Patrick said.
