Augusta commission expanding EEO policy to LGBT community (employment, office)

The commission agreed, 8 to 0, expanding the city's equal employment opportunity policy protecting the LGBT community from discrimination.

That extension now includes gender, gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation.

“We're excited about this big victory and we're very grateful to the commissioners for that victory and really the support we've had from the entire community.”

Matt Duncan, the president of Augusta Equality says this is a huge step in the right direction.

"It just really makes sense. We're within time with what is going on in the US and our local government and we wanted to be in compliance," said Kellie Irving, Augusta Compliance Department Director.


The city already has an LGBT liaison for the sheriff's and mayor's office.
