Watermark project delayed 072908 - The Augusta Chronicle (http://chronicle.augusta.com/stories/072908/met_467448.shtml - broken link)
I think I predicted this a few days ago.. with the softness of the housing market and the banking crisis..the developers of this proposed downtown Augusta project are rethinking their plans. I remember when the big announcement for The Whites Bld glofts were made... that was over 8 years ago! The project sat dormant for years.. just now has it finally been completed by new developers.. It may be that long before The Watermark is ever built.(and if you read the article.. only 1 unit has sold so far in The White's Bldg). The Magnolia Alley project that another forumite was hyping is also at a standstill and it's future is in doubt. Oh and btw.. still no buyers for the Miller Theater... there was a big announcement 3 years ago that it would be renovated..it's still rotting away with plywood over the windows..For Sale again.. Yep.. it looks like a bright year ahead for Augusta.

Couple that with the other pie in the sky project Augusta boosters were hyping... The Villages of Riverwatch.. no movement on that either and no indication any construction will commence anytime this year or ever.
Just goes to show just because someone makes a big announcement and shows some pretty drawings to the press doesn't necessarily mean those plans ever become reality.

Well Greenville does have a better trackrecord on follow through.. This is par for the course in Augusta. This is getting to be like a broken record in Augusta.

I guess Augusta is growing.. if you count backwards.
It has less people today than it did in 2000.
Downtown Augusta has not had a significant building project since 1991.. when the white elephant Port Royal tower was built.. and the Marriot Hotel.. that was 17 years AGO! This Watermark was their big chance in 17 years.. and it looks like it is going down the drain.
