Darn I wish I had known about this planned protest ahead of time, this sounds like something I could really get behind.

A group called GoTopless oranized a topless demonstration in downtown Austin Sunday. The group says it supports a woman's right to go topless and considers it discrimination that in many places only men can be barechested.
I agree completely, it seems odd to me that topless breasts on women are considered improper but on men its completely fine.

The newspaper reported on yesterday's protest with a photo and a short paragraph on page B1 of today's paper. I tried to find the article on the Statesman website to link to it, but strangely enough could find no mention of it there.

I did find the GoTopless website. Moderator cut: this link showing nudity not allowed per terms of service

I'd just like to "support" the cause.

Actually I think the main reason a topless women seems shocking in the USA is because it is rare and taboo. When we chartered in the Virgin Islands there were lots of topless women around on the boats and beaches. After getting over the "newness" of seeing so many breasts in public it became no big deal.

Protest what? I thought it was already legal in Austin.

What a progressive city we have! A few topless demonstrators on Congress ave..

We can be a shining example to Portland, who could only muster 13,000 naked people to ride through the streets on bikes, while the cops provided traffic control:

Don't know if it's legal or "not illegal". In any case, I assume they are protesting here because Austin is the capital and they are protesting that many/most places in the state explicitly make it illegal. Though I missed it, I'm not complaining about their logic

Perhaps not the best idea to have this in August, sometime in the late fall would have been much perki... uh, cooler.

The male/female ratio on this thread is almost as bad as at Fry's...
