UPDATE: 4:00 P.M.:
The “Y” intersection in Oak Hill — where U.S. 290 West splits off from Texas 71 West — has been closed because of the wildfire that continues to threaten homes just west of Oak Hill.

UPDATE: 3:40 P.M.:
Residents on Scenic Brook Drive near Meadow Oaks drive were evacuating after orders from the Fire Department, grabbing children, pets and belonging and leaving the area as quickly as possible.
The Austin Police Department has also completely shut down the “Y” in Oak Hill due to the fire.

So can you explain to me these wild fires? How close are they to austin. I see it on the news here from ny but can't really grasp the concept of location. It's so sad though I was just wondering as someone moving down in 2 months if austin was affected. thanks

Parts of the Y area are within the Austin City Limits.

Today at the pool I could smell mesquite and very small ashes fell on me as I was suntanning. It seemed as though I was the only one worried about it, nobody else seemed to mind.
