I was just wondering what the ongoing nanny rates are in Austin. With the arrival of our second one we are considering nanny vs. 2 kids at daycare. Our expectations will be:

-full time around 40 hours a week
-Watch one infant (3+months) and a toddler (2 years).
-We would like the nanny to take our toddler to some activities around town like story times, children's museum etc. perhaps couple times a week.
-We wouldn't expect any housework (I assume she will have her hands full with tasks above) but just general putting away of children's toys, washing the bottles, etc.

I would love to get some feedback from those who employ a nanny on whether these are reasonable expectations and what the standard pay for it will be.

Thank you.

We use a babysitter that's a full-time nanny and she makes $2500/month. I believe it's for either 2 or 3 kids, no infants, no required cleaning though she said she does it occasionally to be helpful.

12-15/hour for a legal resident. Less if you go with an illegal.

Depends on the daycare and the age of the child. It can cost up to $2000/month for an infant.

Austin Area Nannies, Sitters, Mother's Helpers :: Nannies From the Heart

Mom
(mom's best friend)
These are two best regarded nanny agencies in Austin, I know folks who have used both.

MBF asks for a one year commitment and 12% of gross annual compensation for a full time live out nanny (40 hours a week). Most of the time, for most people, centers are the way to go!

The UT daycare center is about $10k per child/yr. We pay our nanny somewhere between $2500-$3k per month to care for our toddler twins. We also pay her mileage for any activities that she takes them to.

She doesn't clean but she'll wash their cups/bottles and start a load of laundry now and then. Most of her time is spent chasing after 2 babies.

Send their kids to a substandard home daycare that has untrained workers and too many kids.
Or stay home and go on government assistance.
It depends on how "poor" you are.

There are non-profit daycare center whose rates are more reasonable for the middle class and there are also ones who have a mission of helping kids who are "at risk" due to their family income. Texas Workforce Commission also has assistance available.
