My wife, son, and I are about to move to Austin, and would like to get some recommendations on health clubs and gyms. My wife likes to use the treadmill, stationary bike, and do some light rowing. My son likes to lift weights and use the weight machines, and I like to swim.

Any place that offers all of that (at a reasonable, price, of course )? We're in south Austin (78748), so places in that area would be our first choice.

Thanks a lot!

24 hour fitness. Try it out and, if you decide to join, be sure to ask for whatever special they are offering at the time.

You can't beat LifeTime Fitness. My only gripe is they built it out of my way between home and work. Would be nice if they had a few in the area but they are very large complexes.

We also were impressed with many of the YMCA's around here.

The YMCA has everything. We attend the one in Round Rock, but there are several in Austin. The YMCA has corporate deals with some companies, and you can get a good discount if your employer participates.

I just go to Gold's Gym. I'm in North Austin, but I'm sure they have some in South Austin. It's about $35/mo. Pretty simple place, has all the stuff you mention.

Thanks for all the helpful responses. The Y's in San Francicso aren't all that great, so I sort of forgot about them, but I will definitely check them out in Austin. And our realtor also talked about Liftetime as we passed it in our area, so we'll probably look into that, too.

I have used 24HRfitness in four cities and it has been OK. Usually a decent facility at a reasonable cost.
