Hi,

We are in the middle of packing to move and thought this year we'd try a Thanksgiving Dinner at one of the restaurants or hotels that offer a full spread package.

Any recommendations on a good place in South/Central Austin or Downtown?

Steve

Threadgills is where we go every Turkey Day. I have noticed that alot of places are open this year so you have many choices.

Hill's Cafe has a very good, traditional and well priced Thanksgiving meal. I think it is $16.00/person. It's located at 4400 S. Congress between St. Elmo and Sheraton Street.

Where are you moving to Steve?

hi Steve

Si, G and I will be having our Thanksgiving at the Hyde Park Grill-maybe you'd like that.

Actually, if you feel like it, y'all are very welcome to join us for a very low key lunch/dinner thing.

Bridget

Hi Bridget,

Hmmm, we may take you up on that. We're still trying to round up some "orphan" relatives and friends who don't have family events to attend and once we have a final count, we'll make our plans.

Well, we did go to Threadgills. They don't take reservations so it's first come. We waited 1.25 hours and finally got a table. It was very crowded and festive. The fire pit was going outside which was nice to stand around in the cold while waiting. The food was decent enough but not outstanding.

This was our first Thanksgiving that I can remember not being in a home (our own or someone elses). We just wanted to keep it simple this year as we're half packed for a move and none of our friends/family were doing anything big.

It wasn't a bad experience but it wasn't that great either. My wife doesn't want to do it again, so that decides it right there. Next year we'll be staying home for sure.

Steve

I went out one year with the same thoughts..keep it simple. I don't remember where I went but the wait was long (over 1 hour) and the food was nothing to write home about.

I decided that it wasn't worth all the hassle to keep it simple

And besides..you don't have any leftovers to snack on during the weekend after Thanksgiving !
