Hello,

New poster here , but have been lurking posts for some answers and it has been helpful. There has been one question that I just cannot find an answer for.

My husband and I are currently building in Rough Hollow (Yes, we know the concerns and have done tons of research. Comparing it to where we were going, this neighborhood 100x's better.). If you want to build a fence, HOA requires wrought iron fence, which we love. We have a dog, so a fence for us is a must. Our neighbors are doing their research as they are already in, but I would like to do our own part for comparisons. Do any of you have companies you would recommend for quality, warranty, price, etc? We don't necessarily wanted the cheapest fence out there, but the best price per sq ft overall. To be quite honest, we have no clue what to expect and just do not want to be "ripped off" so to speak because we don't know what we are doing.

Thank you!
LF

The sticker shock of a true wrought iron fence would astound you. What is commonly called 'wrought iron' is usually a hollow mild steel stock...much lighter and easier to work with than wrought iron(kinda takes the 'wrought' out of wrought iron). Standard panels are available, further cutting down on labor.

I don't have a company recommendation; but after helping a neighbor build his own custom fence around his pool(and perform some repairs to the HOA fence), I have a new appreciation for the pre-fab fence panels and quality installation. Good luck! I should think there would be some consensus among the neighbors regarding the best fence company to work with. There should be some economy of scale if the workers are already in the neighborhood working on other homes...hopefully resulting in a slight discount for additional customers.

Just get your three estimates and make the decision from there. Like 10scoachrick said, it's likely going to be black steel, and they are pretty easy to assemble. The crew will probably come one day and set posts, then the next day to install the panels. You can easily have a gate added if you like, and they look decent. We have one on the side of our house which is next to a ravine. They did have to weld one section due to an elevation change, but it still looked like a simple build for an experienced crew.

any suggestions for building a fence in the hill country where rock is very abundant? would a jackhammer be needed to get the posts in? i have dug around with a shovel and can't get further than a couple inches in many areas. i can get deeper with a pick but it's a lot of work. an extensive fence could be very expensive.

Jackhammer or rock drill.

Plenty of services out there that have Heavy duty equipment and will come out and punch your holes for you.
