Hello,

I want to make sure I'm somewhat educated about various mounting options/possibilities for mounting a satellite dish on roof without penetrating through the roof shingles (we live in brand new house, brand new roof, etc and I'm not ready to have our roof warranty potentially voided), before talking with a DirecTV rep who might tell me one thing or other that is not entirely true.

In your experience, when you have a satellite dish mounted at roofline (or close to it), is having it screwed through roof shingles in most cases the only viable option'?

Thanks in advance!

Fair chance you could attach to the fascia board; but I'd be really careful putting a 'sail' where the wind can catch it!

I have DISH TV and told them I didn't want the satellite dish put on the roof.......so it is on a 3 foot high pole in the ground by the back corner of my garage.

As long as you can get a direct line of sight to the satellite, I think they will put it anywhere within reason.

The kid they sent out wanted to put it in the middle of my back yard when I told him the roof was out.....where I would have to mow around it and it would have stuck out like a sore thumb.

We settled on the back corner of the garage, where it is actually in my landscaping where I don't mow and is very hard to notice from the road......and I can't see it from my deck or patio either!

Tell DTV you want to be a customer but cannot void your roof warranty. They have "under-eave" mounts they can use, which cost more. I know because I developed them.

Mounting to the fascia is generally discouraged. It depends on the strength of your fascia.

Sides of the house work too, assuming you don't have brick/stucco siding.

DTV will not attach to siding. Don't know about Dish.

If so, this must be a new policy change.....we had two DirecTV dishes installed on the side/back of our house 7 years ago.

Wouldn't do it as of four years ago. I think it has as much to do with the growth in the size and weight of their dishes over time.

Not in Texas, but years a go I was a DTV Installer and we installed on the sides of houses all the time.

They make under eave mounts, chimney mounts, you can put a post or pole in the ground and mount to that.
