Hello,

My husband and I are moving into our new house in Driftwood in February. The house was built in September 2007 and the current owners have been living there since it was built. Our realtor suggested that we consider having the home exterminated before moving in. Do you think she was suggesting this as a courtesy to refer us to services/products or is having an exterminator come in really necessary? There is NO known problem that we are aware of with bugs, etc.

Thank you for your thoughts!

I would think that if it is a known problem it was good advice.

Firstly,
Welcome to the neighborhood!
Depending on where you're house is, it certainly wouldnt hurt, and doesnt cost much.
If they suggest exterminating before you move in that would be dusting the attic. As houses are built out here critters can sneak in and it can take a few seasons to control them. Scorpions ar the most daunting, but really no big deal..I am sure you've read all the 'critter" threads on the board.
I would ask if the house's crawlspace or attic has ever been dusted, and if not I would do it out here.
After that , wait and see, you may need regular treatment, you may not.

Best of luck moving, welcome again.
Cheers

If you have a few days between the old owners moving out and you moving in, it is not so much a neccessity as an oppurtunity.... When you first spray for bugs, they tend to become active before the flee or die, so you sometimes have a spike in creepy crawlies for a couple days. If the current owners have been constant bug-treaters, then it probably doesn't matter. OTOH, if they haven't treated in several years, there might be some scorpions or other bugs that start stirring after the first treatment.
