OK... so making my 1st trip to Austin to look at houses this coming weekend (May 17 & 18), and after a long weekend of viewings, my wife and I would like to chill out with some EXCELLENT BBQ and some live music. We'd love some country, but would also enjoy jazz, rock (classic-style) or other.

1st: Is there still good live music on Sunday nights? I know some towns just shut down on Sundays after 4:00 PM or so, but I have a feeling Austin may stay lively 24/7.

2nd: Is 6th Street the place to go? If not, what do you suggest? We want to be downtown somewhere and might even enjoy a little bar hopping after filling up on some BBQ.

So, who's playing this Sunday night? I'd also welcome any links you might have that would list some options for Sunday night the 18th.

Thanks in advance. You folks are great! Looking forward to visiting this weekend (and hopefully moving in a few months).

We've gone downtown before on Sunday nights and it's a ghost town down there. We were looking for places for dinner v. going to 6th street but I would think with UT graduation happening on Friday of this week, 6th street would be pretty empty as well on Sunday night. We ended up leaving downtown that Sunday night and going up to the Arboretum for dinner instead! I'm guessing a few of the bars down there will have live music on SUnday night, but you will not get a good feel for what downtown Austin is like on a Sunday...literally I thought I saw tumbleweeds rolling down the street

You can pick up a copy of the Chronicle for a good summary of live music, or hit austin360.com

If this link works, it would be a good starting point:

Cedar Street (on 4th) is having a charity concert with Eliza Gilkyson on Sunday night. It is a nice place to hang out and have drinks. She is a mellow, folksy singer-songwriter.

Iron Works downtown is supposed to be good BBQ, but I've never been there.

Stubb's has good bbq and live music. No big show on Sunday, but they might have a local band.

Sunday 4-8 PM....Ginny's Little Longhorn on Burnet...5-10 minute drive from downtown (North). They have Chicken Sh#t Bingo on Sundays with Dale Watson (Traditional country style music)--think Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard...then head to Iron Works or Stubbs for some great BBQ downtown. After that check out who is playing at the Continental Club on South Congress.
Those are my favorite Sunday hangouts when in town.

Just saw that Antone's is hosting the Austin Blues Society annual fundraiser on Sunday evening. They have some pretty good artists lined up.
