Thinking about a trip during the Christmas break and wondering what the weather might be like. Just doing a little sightseeing, hiking, and trying to get an overall feel for the area.

It might be 16F or it may be 90F, either sunny, rainy, or windy, or a combination of all on any given day. Possible ice storm or snow flurries, but make sure you bring flip-flops and shorts

Ha - sounds like the weather in Wisconsin spring through fall - if you don't like the weather just wait 10 minutes it'll probably change!

Seriously, though, it is usually cool and clear most of December - highs in the 40s to 50s, I guess, would be 'typical', I suspect, although the averages might be different, and there are lots of different 'extremes'.

The weather hasn't changed a single time since I moved down here in May. 90 degrees+ and no rain. If this lasts through December, I think I'll go crazy!

I think that some of our most beautiful weather happens in December, 70s during the day 50s at night with the possibility of lower temps (40s). My whole family comes for Christmas every year. Most of the time, the weather is fantastic

No kidding! We used to say that in Atlanta("Just wait an hour, it will change") but that was before it quit raining two years ago!
Then, we hear the same about Austin and sure enough...starting June 2nd, we've had the same weather day by day...even with 4 hurricanes! I will say these cooler nights have been quite enjoyable.
I'm told now that it often cools down by Thanksgiving...or was that Christmas? Or was it Valentine's Day?

I would say generally 50's and 60's though cooler in the morning. I remember lots of really nice Christmas days in Austin...some even in the 70's.

Just before we moved here (about 6 yrs ago) we visited at Christmas and my boys were paying outside in shorts and no shoes!
