We have just moved to the Austin area, so I don't know all the ins and outs yet. My 18 yr. old son is living with us, and in need of medical care. I am not looking for free care...I am looking for somewhere I can get a cash price, or a sliding scale type deal. I knew where to go in houston...but not here.

Any suggestions??

TIA

Update...

I will answer my own question since I have since found out.

Try Lone Star Circle of Care. My son was able to get some help there, and they are charging him according to the amount of money he makes...Great!

Austin Regional Clinic (ARC) has locations all over town and they provide reasonably priced care with or without insurance. We have insurance but with $5K deductible so we pretty much pay for everything out of pocket. I have found ARC to be pretty decent, so check it out.

I've been volunteering since 2005 at the Volunteer Healthcare Clinic, a free health care clinic in Central Austin. Check them out.

If you need medical assistance for your minor children, you can try the CHIP program (Children Health Insurance Program) or Children's Medicaid through the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.

For adults, if your earnings are poverty level or less for household size, you can try applying for the MAP program (Medical Assistance Program) that is available for Travis County residents.

There is also another program called Project Access. If your income is twice the poverty level or below for household size, I think you can qualify.

And as others have mentioned, Lone Star Circle of care is a sliding scale clinic that is known as a Federal Qualified Health Center.

Hope this helps.

Paid $125 to get my daughter stitched up at the emergency room in Gonzales Texas.
Get this, since it happened on my mother-in-laws property, my Bluecross would not pay.
I should have told the hospital it happened in the street.
They were billing the insurance $850
