Hello,

Could someone please comment on how the job market in Australia and New Zealand is for a software (java) devloper/sr. developer/architect etc ? A realistic evaluation. I have monstered and seeked and jobsearched, however, the job sites are a waste of time as they never really indicate how the market out there really is.
Also would someone comment on if Australia would be a better place than New Zealand primarily since it is bigger in size than New Zealand and hence more number of jobs ? I heard the tax rates and cost of living are more or less the same (I understand living in burbs is cheaper than cities and so on and so forth). So the money one makes is almost similar in both the countries ?
I am at a crossroad where I want to leave the US for a life in either of those two countries, so any advice appreciated. If it helps, I have over 9 years of experience in various java related open source technologies and have performed in every role below the CTO. My IELTS result says that I have excellent communication skills.

Cheers,

That would assume you find folks in IT on this forum.

I did a googe, Australia IT job market, this one was an intersting read, considering the source:
ICT job market shaky but hopeful: ITCRA - Computerworld

I reached out to a mate who is a PM with Accenture in Canberra. No response yet.

Thanks for responding minibrings
I am sure there would be some of them on here, no ?
I am in IT (or ICT as the Aussies would call it), hang out in the Birmingham, AL city section and try and reply. Not that there are too many people looking for an IT job in Birmingham
That link you gave has reports from 2011. Markets have been quite bullish since early 2012 and the most recent indicator of the H1 quota (US work visa) being completed very soon are sure shot indicators of a good market.
Thank you for reaching out to your mate in Accenture. It would help if you could please post back here whatever s/he replies.

Its the weekend and I sent it to his work email, so I'd give it a few days for a response..
I'm also in IT/ICT and it has not been very hard for me to find jobs or get interviews in the Northeast US.. This friend of mine was hired by Accenture as a PM and with an Australian MBA and 2-3 years PM experience in Malaysia and they offered him no more than 70k AUD in Canberra.
