Australia is one of the best countries in the world BY FAR. It's prosperous/wealthy, progressive, stable, beautiful cities (Especially Sydney and Noosa IMO), amazing landscapes, fantastic universities and healthcare, friendly people.

Negative things? It is VERY remote, the Australian accent is so strong and it doesn't vary much from Perth all the way to Brisbane, so you will never feel a sense of belonging, It is not really that multiculturally diverse like other countries (E.g. Canada and the US). The rise of the country's activist far right.

Doing my best to point the negatives (I could be wrong...since i've never been there) but:

* killign cats with arrows;
* too many brits?
* geographically isolated...NZ is like 2000 kms away and it's considered "close"
* poisonous spiders and snakes

What else...on the positive side: Sooo many beaches! Plus, the movie Fat Pizza is hilarious in a borat-like feel-bad-to-laugh way.

In fact, Perth is closer to the rest of the world than other major cities (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane)

Perth to Singapore (5 hours)
Perth to Bali (3:30 hours)
Perth to Kong Hong (7 hours)
Perth to Dubai (11:30 hours)

Qantas will fly non-stop Perth to London.

I am "okay" with Australia. I can't think of much about Australia that strikes me as being superlative on the world scene (except for a natural wonder like the Great Barrier Reef). I feel that I would find it too barren, underpopulated and remote to live in. A single U.S. state like Florida has close to the same population as Australia.

However, it is obviously a 1st world country. So, the standard of living would be better than the vast majority of the world's countries. And the cities are nice. Kind of like a hot Canada on a vast island in a remote part of the world.

Definitely a fan of Australia as it was place I was considering living temporarily years ago but due to a family obligation at that time it didn't work out.
