I recently watched a special on Aminal Planet about how plentiful and over run Australia is becoming with the Salties? (saltwater crocs) so much so, that the safty of people and tourists is becoming a concern? Is this true?

Yes it's true, attacks on tourists by crocs pop up in the news from time to time. However, it's mostly because tourists do not stick to the rules, heed the signs.etc, and do frankly stupid things like go swimming at night in crocodile infested waters.

you do know that salties DO NOT live in the southern part of the continent... they are found in northern Qld, northern NT and northern WA
it is the same size as US48 so to say the entire country is overrun is incorrect.. it would be like me making the same comment upon hearing gators attack people in florida and georgia.. and you know that gators are not to be found in many parts of the US only from coastal TX to FL

no worries.. just letting you know..
some people are surprised to hear Australia is the same size as continental USA.. and they come on 1-2 week holidays expecting to see everything...
the southern part of the continent/country would be too cold for crocs in winter... and I don't think all locales where they are found are over-run with crocs.. thats still a pretty wide area. Have not seen the Animal Planet show so I have no idea what part of Oz they are referring to..

well, I will tell you this, I am infactuated with pictures of your homeland, and while I don't know much about it, it looks absolutely magnificant.
Are the aboriginees, (spelling) still strong there?
I believe in my mind and heart, Austrailia to be mysterious, untouched, utter beauty in even the dryest of areas...it seems so big, vast and wild...
Don't be to hard on Animal Planet, as I could very easily be from Oz myself...
now next time, don't be so hard on someone who asks a stupid question like I did, cuz, until you called me on it, I had no idea...at least allow a women her dignity, yanno? LOL

I was not hard on you. If you look at my post I was simply providing factual information and providing a north american example so that the point can be understood better. It is all to common for Americans to not know the vast size of Oz or to think that the entire country is full of crocs and other creatures. By giving north american examples (e.g., its the same size as US48) it helps them have a better understanding of Oz.
What about those box jellyfish, a couple of stings and you're toast or those spiders that like sleeping in shoes that'll bite and kill, not to mention those waspy looking ants that attack! Scary critters down under.

box jellies are only found in the tropical beaches of the north.. redbacks are found in all but the most inhospitable area.. but chances of being bitten by one are slim. I've never encountered one personally nor did I inspect my shoes or the toilet every day.
funny I just read wikipedia and it appears that redbacks have made their way to Fukuoka, Japan, New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates...

ok, I stand corrected...perhaps I'm getting way to gunshy from some of the other more sarcastic folks in here...yanno?
Well, thanks so much, and please feel free to come back and educate me more, cuz I'd love to hear...
and yes, it did help me picture it with more clairity...thank you
