Best: 1968 VW Beetle (I still own it!)

Worst: Oldsmobile F85 with aluminum 315 V-8 that leaked it's compression and coolant all over the place

I wonder if anybody here had an GM diesel back in the late '70s? My parents had an 1979 Olds 98 and my uncle had a 1980 Cadillac with that motor. What a waste!!!

Best: It's a toss up between my first car a 69 Camaro and my 2002 Celica GTS. I still own the Celica and it only has 45k miles on it. It's a really fun car to drive. There's no rust on the car and it still looks new.

Worst: A tie between my Ford Tempo and an old Mustang. I'll never own a Ford again!!!!

It is irrational to not consider a Ford today. The Tempo was a terrible car. But there are many good Fords today. Car companies have good years and bad years. All of them. Some, like Chrysler, seem to have more bad years.

Current Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck (best) with 240,000 miles on it; Pontiac LeMans (1987) was the ABSOLUTE worst...!!! Didn't last a year---what a piece of junk...

Happy Trails,

Best 1991 Nissan 240SX original owner, 110,000 miles, throw an oxygen sensor in when the check engine light comes on, do basic maintenance, but replace the air filter more often for better performance. It's never not started or left me stranded, runs great, fun to drive.

Worse 1989 VW Scirocco clutch went out after 6 months, always in the shop, I bought the Nissan and gave the VW to my brother, a mechanic who can fix anything, but he got so tired of repairing it instead of driving it that he sold it to another mechanic, so it wouldn't end up bankrupting an unsuspecting buyer with no mechanical ability.

Best car: Either my current 2011 Suzuki SX4 or my old '98 Explorer Sport. The Explorer needed its share of repairs but that thing got me home safe through several ice storms. The SX4 handling on snowy roads is great too, I just wish the fuel tank was a little bigger!

Worst: 2007 Ford Focus. Ugh.

Best - 98 Mustang dogged the crap out of it, drove it like I stole it, not a single problem whatsoever. Even the cheap interior held together. Put over 100K on it 3 years.

Worst - 2001 Honda Civic - spent 3K trying to get it to stop running hot once the warranty ran out. Transmission went out at 75K, power steering went out right after that. Dropped 8k in it overall to keep it running before finally throwing in the towel. The day I traded it in, I had to have it towed via flatbed tow truck to the dealership. Should have listened to my older sis who told me not to get one as she had the same car. Lesson learned, biggest pile of over rated garbage I've ever owned. Coworker having issues with her Civic right now.

Currently drive a used 2008 Scion TC which is making a strong case for runner up to the Civic but has a ways to go to pass the 94 Nissan pickup I had that gave me fits. Meanwhile, this thing is nothing but a rattle trap. Can't wait to get rid of it. Miss my 350z but that's what I get for wrecking it.

I've owned 4 cars and 5 SUVs.
Best: 1993 Saab 9000. Bought it used in 1999 for $9K. Had mechanical issues right away, but worked a deal between Saab and the dealer where I paid $1K, they split $2K of repairs. For 10 years ran like a beast in all weather. Drove frequently from Boston to Pittsburgh and weekly from Pittsburgh to DC for a couple years. Got rid of it in 2010 at 200+K as needed a vehicle with cargo space for catering and cash for clunkers was a great opportunity to do so. I hated the thought of the dealer intentionally seizing the engine though. It was still cherry.

Which brings me to my worst car: the 2009 Jeep Patriot. It is a POS. Horrible in inclement weather and ridiculously uncomfortable on long trips. But it does have cargo space.

Really? I had a '96 GT convertible that had major rear axle problems at 30k miles. The car felt downright scary at anything over 75mph. The seats were totally cracked up at less than 5 years old, total piece of junk in my opinion. My '00 GT convertible was a much more solid feeling car. Bought with 3k miles, drove it to 75k. Had some clutch release bearing noise that I had to replace the clutch to get rid of, that was around 35k miles. Ford gave me the runaround on that, only would replace the release bearing, I had had it in for the noise with less than 10k miles and "they never heard it." Frustrated the hell out of me, they did cut me a break on labor to install a new cobra clutch kit that I bought myself. Also replaced the convertible top before I sold it, you would think it might last longer than 7 years. Was cracked up around the edges. The dumb 3rd brake-light had to be replaced at about 5 years also, totally sun-baked. Cheap plastic I reckon.

I don't remember which Mustang had the cracked intake manifold that caused the coolant system to puke all over the road. Ford fixed it for free, think the car was out of warranty, so was impressed that they did it. They knew it was a common problem but would not do anything until it cracked. I'm sure there are a lot of overheated early 4.6 mustangs due to this.
