I really don't know a lot about cars but , I'm looking to compare and maybe trade in my fully loaded V6 Pontiac 2006.

I like sport cars that run fast... maybe even convertible. But I'm not looking to spend more than 23k on it.

Any suggestions?

I'm a bit biased since I own a 2011 RSPEC (which I prefer from a styling perspective compared to the face lifted 2013's) but you should be able to get a brand new 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe in base trim for around that budget. The 2013's base motor is a 274hp turbo four, with a 350hp V6 optional.

Then you've always got the V6 Mustang, Miata, FRS/BRZ and a whole slew of used car options.

If you're willing to go used, you're not going to get any more speed per $ than a C5 Z06.

Get a 2005/2006 Corvette for $25k or so. I'm tempted to do the same for myself once I add a 3rd stall to my garage.

While you can get a z06 for low to mid 20's, you need to be mindful of what you are getting. There are plenty of z06's that have been "rode hard and put up wet". They are tracked, dragged and street raced much of their lives. Close inspection to all detail is more critical with a used z06 than the average used car. (Same goes for WRX/STIs, etc.)
Don't get me wrong, I know plenty of z06 owners that have 50 to 100k on their cars and they are in perfect shape both cosmetically and mechanically. They are out there, you just have to be cautious.
I currently have an 03 z06 with 40,000 on it. It would probably fetch 24 to 26k on the open market. It's not for sale, but there are others out there that are similar or better deals from a mileage standpoint.
