20000 miles/2 years

50000 miles/ 5 years

80000 miles/8 years

100000 miles/10 years

150000 miles/15 years
0 miles, 0 years.

However if the response is limited to the values provided, then 20000, 2 years.

Sub-20k and two years. You essentially get a new car that has already taken the hit of driving it off the lot.

In that case, you buy a car that has between 125k - 150k. Most people are scared of them (which means they are cheap), despite the fact that said vehicle usually has had a LOT of "maintenance" work done recently, and is good to go for another 100k.

This is what I would look at. I want somebody else to take the initial financial hit and then I can pick up the car at a big discount even though at that mileage it is still relatively new. To me it's a nice compromise of not paying too much while still getting something that has the feel of a new car. If you only go with a 1 year old car (which I did on my current car that I bought more than 8 years ago) I think you still pay a bit of a premium. I wouldn't be that strict about the mileage or the years but somewhere in that range. Then I would drive it until the wheels fall off.

Not everyone is concerned with the latest safety enhancements.

You're right but safety enhancements do matter (which is the basis of the quote I was responding to).

I look for a used vehicles that have blue book value that have leveled off. If the same vehicle sells for 40K new then look for blue book value of 10K. This could be 8-10 years old. Then use the internet to find that vehicle to get and actual asking price for that vehicle with appropriate mileage. I found an SUV for $6000 that is 13 years old with 90,000 miles. The same vehicle sells new for $40,000. I will drive this vehicle for 10 years and put another 50,000 miles on it. Here's the weird part 2 of my vehicles blue book value is going up.

Not quite sure what is that you trying to say with XXXXXXmiles/yy years.
Is it miles driven per year?

I prefer buying a used with leftover factory warranty. That covers me in case fices hit the fan after some time having it. Saved me a lot with my Camry, when I found they are bad prone to water pump failures and sure enough, mine kicked the bucket at 55K miles, 5 K miles before warranty expiration.
Otherwise, it really goes to maintenance and owner age. Rather not buy from anyone before 30 years of age and definitely not with any mods installed. Like my son did, buying a Mazdaspeed with this and that modded, and really poorly, then she cost us about 3 grand in fixing it all.

I mean either XXXXXX miles or YY years for eg., 20000 miles or 2 years which on average is more or less the same... since the average miles that a car runs for an year is about 10000 to 12000 miles
