Well - I was supposed to buy a Hyundai Santa Fe but backed out - could not stomach the interior - so I test drive a 4 cylinder Equinox and liked it - I felt it had enough power - a lot of reviewers say it is underpowered. Opinions please.
A female friend of mine bought one of the first generations when they came out. It had the V6 and I loved the interior and everything about the vehicle. Even the White paint looked good, the cream/khaki interior felt good too, despite the fact that Im not a fan of lighter colored interiors.
I liked it, but I dont know about the 4 cyl.
Dont let 2 extra cylinders scare you.... With 4 cylinders, the engine will just work harder than the 6 will and will be more stressful on the engine.
We've had one for almost a year and my wife loves it. Zero problems and we got the 4 cyl for the gas mileage. It is much better than the 07 v6 Explorer we traded in. IMO it has plenty of power for driving around town and at freeway speeds, but don't expect fast acceleration when you are going over say 60. The V6 has over 300 hp and that is plenty, and not that much of a difference in gas mileage IF you drive it carefully. We didn't even drive the V6 because I know I would have wanted it, but I didn't want to pay the extra $1,500 or for the extra gas that my wife would use idling waiting for the kids at school. It is nice going about 400 miles between fill ups in the city.
In city driving I get about 22-24 on the computer, and about 27-28 on my 18 mile one way commute to work in moderate traffic. On the highway it shows about 32 or so when driving 60-65. Once I got 38 over a 25 mile stretch of flat highway driving about 55-60 behind an 18 wheeler. Based on my actual hand calculations, the computer is about 5-8% optimistic on the mpg. Our lifetime average over 11,000 miles is showing about 22 on the computer, and that is probably 75% city, 5% idling and 20% highway.
There are a few things I wish it had (larger rear storage area, rear AC vents, and I miss the Ford keypad entry) and people have had some issues with the earlier models (2010-2012), but check out EquinoxForum.net: Chevy Equinox Forum - Index to see what a lot of other owners have to say.

If you felt it has enough power for you, who cares what reviewers say? Your the one driving it every day.
The Equinox in general is a nice, and popular small SUV. If you really like it, I see no reason for you to have heartburn over getting one.
