I have a 1997 S-10 4wdr Chevy Blazer that is at about 200,500 miles.
I noticed that the tire treads are getting a little low. Additionally in the past I have had the occasional problem with the front tire going low probably because of pitting in the aluminum rims.
I have maintained this car well and replaced many things (of which I wish I had kept a good list).
I like my Blazer, its the perfect size and the back seat folds absolutely flat which is where I keep it all the time. Great for sleeping in on long trips and loading lots of stuff. Everytime I investigate a replacement I can't find one with all the things I like about my Blazer.
I do realize at some point I will have to replace it but without a crystal ball I can't know whether it will be sooner or later.
So, any recommendations on tires and rims? I have thought about buying replacement rims but they are sort of expensive. I have had the rims and tire crevices cleaned up in the past and that did seem to help. The problem tends to be random.
Also, aren't tires sort of bought by mileage? 30,000 miles? 40,000 miles etc? Should I get a 30,000 mile tire with the idea that I probably won't keep the car much longer? I suppose that depends on how much I drive hey? About 12,000 a year. That could change in 2-3 if I retire and want (or have the money) to road trip. That would be a sensible time to get a replacement although I don't know if I'll be able to buy a new car and retire at the same time!
Do they make a good 30,000 mile tire? Or all the better tires also higher mileage?
