Back in 2012 I was looking to purchase a new car. The first and obvious choice was a Chevy Malibu. I have to admit, the car does look nice! But, thank God, I chose a Honda instead. I see my choice is sound and I am definitely not regretting it.
Twenty million recalls costing GM $2-billion is only a hunnerd bucks a car . Surely they can afford that, which is one half of one percent of the purchase price, that also has the probability of a recall calculated into it.
Here's what is really happening, folks. Auto assembly is now completely automated. An assembly is not secure enough, and comes apart and a million cars get recalled. Instead of a worker on the assembly line on car #1 saying "Hey you guys, this automatic transmissions shift cable may not be fully secured to the shifter bracket or transmission bracket, and it's gonna come loose." A car rolls off the end of the line, sight unseen by critical human eyes. Until somebody in quality control selects a random car, and says "melt 'em all down".
Sad part is that we keep paying for their ineptitude with our tax money.
How many billions we lost?
By the looks of it, history will repeat itself in a couple of years...
Well, get the facts straight first. Every cent of your federal taxes goes towards interest on our national debt. Banks actually bail out these companies, it works out well for them. Blame the government for allowing banks ("federal" reserve) to control society.
For all you people "worrying" about GM that feel the need to start a new thread ever time they recall a bunch of cars, know this...They are still selling more cars then Toyota and Honda in this country. The recalls haven't sent them spiraling back in to BK.
And my GM car doesn't have an ignition switch to recall.
Most cars get a recall or two in their service lifetimes. Which ones get publicized is the interesting thing. When I was working as a Honda service writer, there were a number of "silent recalls" where faulty parts would get repaired whenever a car came in for other service. And I think Ford still has the record for a model with the most recalls, the 2000 Focus, with 12, IIRC.
