IDK, the Juke is one ugly-ass car and doesn't do anything for Nissan's deteriorating image.
On another note:
The Citroen 2CV was designed in the 1950's as a car farmers in France could use in the fields. It's simple enough to be repaired right in the field and rides smooth enough to carry eggs across a field without breaking them.
Regarding the Reliant Robin. ...apparantly you don't need a drivers license to drive one, therefore it became popular in rural areas where it offered alternative to motorcycle riding in the rain and cold.
Regarding the Aztec and the Juke, the only rationalization I can come up with is their design teams must have been heavy users of LSD.
May not be the ugliest. BUT what were they thinking
It, like the PT did, is selling just fine, so what they were thinking is obviously how to make money.
As an example, the PT was supposd to sell 50k units per year. In the first year, people were so enamored of it's shrunken '37 Ford styling that there was a waiting list for 2 years, and they opened up a 3rd shift in the plant to make over 150k per year! The PT then sold for 10 more years with zero advertising until Fiat retooled the plant to make Fiat 500s. That's the sign of a successfully designed car, on that has appeal BECAUSE of it's looks and ability.
Contrast that with the Aztek, whcih was ALSO supposed to sell 50k units per year. The first year, they sold 11k of them, and they ended up selling 100k of them worldwide over an 8 year span (with less than 400 sold over the last 2 years of that)
The PT Cruiser is not ugly but I do not get its popularity - the idea of popularizng a small version of a milk truck is just a weird nostalgia trip. But not as awful as the me-too Chevy HHR.
I think the Karmann Ghia is a beautiful car. The Citroen is distinctive and avant garde. I like it.
The Buick "Rendezvous" is right up there with the ugliest in my opinion.
