It's been a long time since I drove a mid-size sedan, or even a sedan in general. I got a Hyundai Sonata loaner when I dropped off my truck for an airbag recall this morning. It had a surprisingly quiet cabin, but the drive almost made me fall asleep on my way to work. If you make the cabin quiet and comfortable I think the car needs to be fun to drive. Do all midsize sedans, e.g. Accord, Altima, etc. drive the same way? It's such a popular and competitive segment, I don't know how people can drive these things. I can't wait to return this thing.

EDIT: Whoops, I meant to post this in the Automotive thread. Apparently I'm falling asleep at work too.

Which engine does it have? Being a loaner, it's probably the base model with 2.4L 4 cylinder. Even in the turbo model it's not a performance car. Most midsize family sedans in this class aren't "fun to drive". Some models offer a more sporty suspension. The fastest of the midsize sedans are capable of 0-60 in 6 seconds, a realm that was once out of reach of sports cars a few decades ago.

Regardless of actual performance, the quiet cabin still makes it feel like a snoozer though. I think my SUV actually goes 0-60 faster than my roadster does, but the roadster is so much more fun to drive and engaging because you are sitting so low and you can hear the engine growl. The mid-size sedan segment really numbs down the driving experience, maybe on purpose. Maybe I'm not their target audience.

That is their target audience. Quiet cabin is preferred over road handling. And for your everyday commute it is probably more welcome

Of the Accord, Altima, Camry group of cars, the Accord has always been a bit "sportier". Stiffer suspension, good steering feel, and excellent manual transmission. The Camry (at least previous generations) has been known to be more on the quiet and comfortable side.

They're still family sedans so they won't compete with a sports car, but in my opinion the Honda would be the more fun daily driver.

I have a couple friends with kids and they both swear by their Accord V6 with 6MT. It's what gets them through the day ... before they have to drive home from work to take their kids to soccer practice. I think I'd still rather switch things up from day to day between a sports car and a crew cab truck (a necessity for any homeowner with a bit of land).

For a DD I want a nice soft comfortable quiet ride. I really don't wanna hear the ahole next to me bumping the base or clown music at max volume. The quieter the better.

A 2013 Accord coupe V6 6 spd in a Motor Trend road test 0 to 60 in 5.4 sec. and 13.9 at 101 in the 1/4 mile. That beats many 400 CID 60's musclecars.
