I see many Ford and Chevy (mostly Chevys) trucks and vans with peeling paint on the tailgates and hoods, exposing the bare galvanized metal underneath. It seems to always peel off vertically in sheets. What causes this? My 2004 van fortunately so far does not have this problem. When parked it is always in my carport. Ideas?

How old? Several companies had paint issues through the 1990s when formulae changed due to environmental regulations.

Yep, my 94 GMC started peeling in 96. GM did have a TSB on it and if you were within a certain timeframe they would fix it.
