I rented a car this weekend at the Portland Maine airport from budget rent a car. What is the normal return policy regarding dropping a car off? I asked when I rented the car and the clerk said "someone will be in the garage to accept my car. I stopped in the garage and a Budget employee told me to just leave the keys in the car. I left to catch my flight. Is this the what they do it? Just leave the keys in the car with no paperwork required? I have a nagging feeling I should have been "checked out" or something. I haven't rented a car in a long time.
I have done it many times after-hours. Take pictures of the odometer and gas tank gauge with your cellphone. I usually fill my tanks before returning unless I check the option for them to fill up my tanks.
There should be a key drop box. If an employee said to leave the keys in the car, you are fine.
I get my receipts e-mailed to me. After-hours I would get a receipt emailed to me when they first open. Otherwise I get an e-receipt immediately. If the charges look normal, then I go one with my life.
If you don't have an e-receipt, go to budget website and enter your rental agreement number and the receipt will be there.
Thanks, I haven't rented a car in years and last time I had to check it in. I was just worried that they were still charging me.
