I had one. It's a great motor, stuffed into a terrible car. You're not missing much.
Possible classic car status not already mentioned: Dodge Spirit R/T & Dodge Daytona IROC R/T. 2.2L turbo 4, DOHC heads engineered by Lotus. Could lay down a 1/4-mile in the mid-14s.
Those cars were junk all the 2.2 cars of that time leaked oil. I had a dodge shadow always leaked oil from the valve cover , did not matter how many times repaired always leaked.
Already mentioned and geared towards current worth/value in my mind, but primarily: The Aluminum mid engine NSX followed by distant second choices in the ZR1, Supra, FD Rx7. I would add the 300ZX to the list but they are worth so little these days its hard to be enthusiastic about them.
1991 Chrysler TC By Maserati
Though intentions were pure (as they most often are), the Chrysler TC by Maserati was a Frankenstein of vehicle, with adopted parts and badges thrown together to create what would ultimately become a bit of an embarrassment to the two companies it was trying to promote. Over three years, the car only sold 7,000 examples, and successfully butchered the friendship between Chrysler and the Italian automaker.
I think the op was only refering to the DOTs requirents as a classic car, which is 25 & older, so anything technically from that corvette, to the Lumima(van and car) at least 25yrs old can be registered as a classic car and recieve the antique plates.
