Anyone ever compare the two vehicles? Since they are only $3k apart and can probably get better deals on the RDX vs the refreshed CRV, is the RDX a better value for what you get?
Anyone ever cross-shop these? What are your thoughts? Which did you end up choosing and why?
Well with the RDX you're getting a much better powertrain with its v6 engine and NON cvt transmission. Not to mention, the RDX (in my opinion) looks MUCH nicer all around than the cr-v.
I guess it just comes down to a matter of styling and performance preference.
My parents shopped both of them. They chose the CRV because the RDX "felt too big". I was surprised since the RDX isn't much larger at all. It could be that my parents also didn't like the price difference.
But if you can buy an RDX for $3K more than a CRV EX-L, that's what I would choose.

You're always making references to how old you are. I'm surprised your parents are still young enough to drive

A cursory look on truecar.com for my area shows a $6-9k difference between comparably-equipped RDX vs. CRV so a $3k diff sounds like a great deal for a RDX.

That's a good point. The OP was probably comparing a fully loaded CRV to a base model RDX. Not a fair comparison.
Yeah, I'd be happy with EX-L CR-V but Honda chose to put crap headlights on anything but the Touring trim and I do a TON of night driving. All that CR-V Touring really has over the base Acura is Navi, which I don't need as I just use smartphone, hence, $3k difference.

You should probably go for the better headlights. Hitting a deer will cost a heck of a lot more than $3k, potentially your life. If headlights are really important, check out an Audi Q5 too.
I looked at the RDX and was considering buying it to replace my anemic Forester. I liked the interior of the RDX and the power. However, the exterior design is too bland IMHO and I absolutely will not buy a car that requires premium fuel as it is $0.50 or more per gallon than regular unleaded. I wouldn't consider the CRV because it is underpowered akin to my previous Forester. I purchased a Toyota Highlander instead and I am very happy with it. Plenty of power, lots of room and good mpg (I'm averaging 23 mpg combined). However, it is much bigger than either the RDX or CRV.
