One third of drivers not recognizing the symbol is a lot of drivers. In any other business that relies on quick visual recognition, they would have changed it quickly.

There's nothing intuitive about that design. The first time I saw it, it reminded me of some hieroglyphic found in an Egyptian tomb.

Right about that... But it also amazes me that when I am on the road I always see at least one car (usually a mini van) rolling with an obviously half inflated tire. People really don't pay much attention to their own car's conditions. This probably also explains the many cars on the side of the road with the mini spare on one side and a jack under the other with the wheel missing.

Are there only horses where you live? I'm in my 60s and I've been using a tire gauge since the 60s.

As someone has already said, when you see an unfamiliar light come on, you know it means something is wrong. So look it up in the manual!

There are quite a few thoroughbred horse farms nearby, now that you ask. But since I'm in the NY/NJ metro area, there are also a lot of vehicles.

I hope your tire gauge brought you comfort and joy. I am in my mid-fifties. I don't know how or when in life I would have learned about a tire gauge. No tires on any car I've ever owned have ever blown up nor injured others nearby, and I have never known such a thing to happen to anyone I know, either. It's probably a good thing to know exactly what your tire pressure is at all times. Gas mileage and all that. I just try to keep good tires on my car. I have not had a problem.

Which is EXACTLY what the OP said she did as soon as the light appeared. In the first post.

Which is why it shouldn't matter if the warning light looked like an Eggo coming out of a toaster.

However in this case it does LOOK like the condition it is warning about.

Yeah, that's a real annoying sound. They used to be buzzers and now it's a chime but it doesn't matter. It doesn't help that it's the same sound as when you leave the keys in the ignition or the headlights on.
